What is NEDCO?
NEDCO is the National Entrepreneurship Development Company. It was set up in August 2002 to develop the small and micro enterprise (SME) sector. It is intended to build on all previous initiatives to foster entrepreneurship and ensure sustainability and success.
What is NEDCO's primary goal?
NEDCO will establish 5,000 new small or micro enterprises per year in the non-traditional business sector. NEDCO will enhance the success rate of small and micro enterprises; and thereby contribute to the sustainable economic and social development of Trinidad and Tobago.
Who is NEDCO's target market?
NEDCO will develop the human capital of a large sector of society that is disenfranchised and without access to traditional means of funding or training opportunities.
What can NEDCO do for me?
NEDCO will help to clarify your business goals and provide training and funding supports to ensure the survival and long-term success of the entrepreneur and his business.
How does a client get funding?
You must apply to the nearest NEDCO Business Office. You need to provide relevent personal information, and a business plan, financial information and a proposed cash flow worksheet. NEDCO's Business Development Officers then assist you through the process.
Where are NEDCO's business offices located?
There are nine business centres throughout Trinidad and Tobago. They are located in Sangre Grande, Princes Town, Point Fortin, Arima, Barataria, Tunapuna, Chaguanas, Couva, Tobago, San Fernando and Port of Spain. .
What has the company achieved so far?
We have provided facilities to 2,042 new enterprises in the first year, and will have reached over 5,000 by the end of year two. We have designed programmes to help entrepreneurs use the opportunities presented by seasonal and other markets such as Carnival.
What is entrepreneurship?
In Trinidad and Tobago, this relates to a desire to be self supporting through one's initiative, ideas, effort, personal attributes and characteristics. It is distinguished from business which is traditionally viewed as a discipline involving systems, environments and management. Examination of both sectors among privileged segments of the society in one instance, while the very same systems inhibit its accumulation among others. NEDCO's plans must therefore develop the human capital while ensuring that the specific needs of the disenfranchised segments of the society are redressed.
Where does NEDCO get its funds from?
NEDCO must develop systems to sustain itself. Funds are generated by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and international agencies
How is NEDCO different from any other small business development company?
NEDCO is building on policies, strategies and initiatives already undertaken by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. The company is a 'one stop' shop for entrepreneurial support services whose main objective is the training and empowerment of the entrepreneur and not just the enterprise.
Does NEDCO assist with export?
NEDCO has the network to assist its entrepreneurs to access the markets best suited to their products.
